Once we receive your sample at our lab, it will begin processing. Typically, turnaround time is approximately 2-4 weeks from the date we scanned your swab for you to obtain your dog's results.
Please remember that it is the customer's responsibility to properly activate each swab to their dog's MyEmbark profile. Our staff will not see any notes or messages written on or submitted with the packaging. If you have questions, please contact us before mailing the swab to reduce the chance of a delay. |
After you've activated the swab, the next step is to mail it to us! Once it's been received at our facility, we will scan it and you'll be notified automatically. Processing will begin shortly thereafter, we'll keep you updated along the way as well!
Depending on which test, the turnaround time can vary:
Type of Test | Turnaround Time* |

DNA methylation / Age Test | Up to 5 weeks |
Gut Health Test | 2 - 3 weeks |

Please note: We will email (and/or text message) you as soon as everything is ready, and we provide frequent updates throughout the process at each stage. To learn more, please see What happens at the Embark lab?
About our process
We thoroughly check every result in our quality assurance pipeline. Embark tests are the most advanced genetic analyses commercially available for dogs at this time. The full process to extract the DNA, identify your dog’s DNA markers, and analyze the results against the extensive Embark database is done in a very deliberate and careful manner.
This is why our test takes longer than other dog DNA tests, but it's important that we provide you with the most information with the best service.
The disease tests that Embark offers are finalized as a result of rigorous scientific analysis of specific mutations determined to meet medical prognostic needs. Although there are no currently accepted laboratory standards and/or regulations that must be achieved in performing various required tests for canine genetic testing, Embark has adopted all relevant human diagnostic standards based on clinical requirements by national or state agencies—including the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA ’88). Embark complies with those requirements as well as the scientific testing requirements to achieve quality products and services that are needed for the canine medical community.
