No. Your dog’s test results are private. Embark Veterinary takes confidentiality very seriously. You can find our privacy policy here: embarkvet.com/privacypolicy.
We will never share your information or your dog's information without your permission.
You have the ability to choose which features of your results, if any, you want to include in your dog's public, shareable profile. For steps, please see How do I change my dog's privacy settings?
If you have a Breeder Account and your dog's breed is available in Matchmaker, you are able to opt your dogs in or out of this tool: How do I opt my dog into Matchmaker?
We listed some scenarios below that you may encounter:
What if someone else bought the kit for me?
Embark's policy is that results are only shared and discussed with the MyEmbark account holder unless written permission is given and states that we can share the results with someone else.
If you purchase a kit to be used by another person, those order details and the status of that order can be shared with you, but once they use the kit, those results will only be shared with the person who created the MyEmbark account that houses the dog's profile and completed results.
What we can share:
- If the order was shipped
- If the kit was activated
- If the swab has arrived at our lab
If you receive an Embark kit as a gift, the results are not shared with the person who purchased the kit unless you, the account holder, grant permission or share those results with them.
The easiest way to view someone else's results is to either have them share their dog's public profile with you or add you as a shared owner on the dog's profile.
What if someone sends me a picture of their dog's results and I have questions for Embark?
As stated above, we will only discuss results with someone other than the MyEmbark account holder if we have written permission from that account holder. The account holder can contact us with their permission.
We encourage you to request access from the account holder directly as they can send you their dog's public profile or add you as a shared owner. However, if you were sent the dog's public profile we can discuss those results with you, but only the results that were made public to you. If you've been added as a shared owner to the dog's profile, Embark will be able to discuss all of the dog's results with you because you are also able to view them on your MyEmbark account
Exceptions: One exception would be if you have access to a dog's results and you would like help to interpret them. Since you already have access to the information needed to interpret the results, we can assist you with that interpretation. We can not, however, divulge any additional information that you do not already have access to.
- Example: A friend sends you a picture of their dog's Trait results, and you would like to know what color puppies your dog would produce if paired with that dog. We would be happy to help you do that pairing calculation because you already have the data needed to make that prediction. But if you need additional data about a specific dog that is not on your MyEmbark account, we would then need written permission from that account holder.
Will you discuss my dog's results with my Veterinarian?
Not unless you want us to! You can send your dog's results to your vet or give us consent to discuss the results with them. You can find your dog's Vet Report at the bottom of their summary page and can email or download it as a PDF. You can also add your Veterinary clinic to your dog's Profile within the "edit profile" section. If your vet then reaches out to Embark to discuss your dog's results, we are able to review the results with them.
What if I'm the new owner of a dog that was already tested?
If you've taken ownership of a dog that already has been tested with Embark there are ways to gain access to their profile and results. The previous owner can share or transfer ownership of the dog's profile.
If you are unable to contact the previous owner about transferring ownership, we ask that you provide proof of ownership of the dog. This can be done by sending us an email containing a recent vet or insurance bill with the date, your name, and the dog's name showing that you are in charge of their care. Once we have this information we can make you a shared owner of that dog's profile so their results will appear on your MyEmbark account. If you have additional questions about this, please contact us.
Please note: If you're adding someone or being added as a Shared Owner or Transferring Ownership, the recipient must first create their own MyEmbark account.
