Interestingly, Chow Chows are one of the breeds most commonly identified in mixed-breed dogs. Even though purebred Chows are not especially common in most places today, they were an AKC top 10 breed in the 80s and popular into the 90s. Some of those Chows bred with other dogs, and today their mixed breed descendants retain small amounts of Chow.
Did you know that the Chow Chow is one of the only breeds known to have a blue tongue? When a dog with a blue tongue is crossed with a dog with a pink tongue, the result is a spotted tongue. Many Chow mixes have these spotted tongues!
