Will the test kit say what my dog is allergic to?
Unfortunately, there are currently no widely applicable genetic tests for the predisposition for dogs to develop allergies in dogs. If there is not a known, published, and scientifically validated genetic variant associated with a disease, Embark cannot test for it.
We do test for the MDR1 gene, the drug sensitivity gene, which some people consider an allergy.
Embark continues to follow the most recent findings in canine genomics—and our researchers are making some of them, too! If and when genetic variants are demonstrated to be causal or are demonstrated to be strongly associated with disease in many different populations of dogs, we are happy to consider them as a returnable result.
You can learn more about the conditions we test for here: What health conditions does Embark test for?
