Early onset adult deafness (EOAD) is a genetic condition that affects Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Ridgeback mixes and leads to progressive hearing loss in the affected dogs during their early adulthood. EOAD results are only available for dogs tested on our v6 microarray (you can find instructions on where to find the microarray your dog was tested on here). While in many instances, we are able to use markers on earlier versions of our test to update previously tested dogs, we cannot guarantee that it will be added to earlier chips. At this time, if your dog was tested on an earlier microarray and you would like to have them tested again, we'd be happy to offer a discounted test kit.
Please note that the variant we are currently able to test for is specific to the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed. We do know that this is something that is of interest in other breeds, such as Border Collies, but at this time the variant we test for is only identified in Rhodesian Ridgebacks. As a research-focused company, we hope to be able to add additional variants that impact other breeds to our testing in the future!
