Do you test for merle gene length or insertion?

We test for the gene, but not the length at this time.

We are not able to test for merle gene insertion or length via our current microarray at this time. 

Due to the nature of microarray-based technology, Embark only queries the invariable end--the end that doesn’t change. We can reliably detect the invariable end in every merle dog we’ve queried. 

However, if you want to make breeding decisions around merle, the length of the variable end matters.

We are exploring other ways to provide the results in the future, although we do not have an ETA for when this test would be available.
