Due to the nature of analyzing methylation profiles to estimate age, it can be difficult to spot a contaminated sample.
Compared to DNA analysis for genotyping where contamination is very easy to catch, a contaminated age test sample would likely not be detected in our lab.
While we are confident in this model’s ability to provide a prediction interval for your dog’s age, we are still working diligently to identify ways to detect potential contamination. Contamination could be from other dogs, environmental contaminants, etc.
Because contamination can be difficult to detect, we highly recommend carefully following the collection guidelines when swabbing your dog (find those here). This will help prevent potential contamination and ensure a high-quality sample for analysis.
