Approximately three (3) out of four (4) dogs will have a notable result or be carriers of a genetic disease and roughly one (1) in four (4) dogs will be at an increased risk for a genetic disease.
In the case of a notable result indicating the dog is a carrier of a disease, it is worth taking note, but not something to worry about. But, this is something to know about as it may impact personalized care recommendations such as obtaining a healthy baseline, or breeding recommendations. Additionally, when it comes to a dog that is at-risk knowing this before clinical signs develop may allow you to take proactive steps to mitigate the impact of an at-risk result for your patient.
