The Embark for Breeders kit does not include breed percentages. It will show that the dog either has 100% ancestry to a purebred population or will be listed as a mixed breed.
It is important to note that there is a distinction between breed ancestry and breed purity. Purebred status is determined by pedigree and registration bodies, not Embark. Our breed ancestry analysis incorporates a unique algorithm to create a breed population genetic signature based on a reference panel of registered dogs of a single breed. This analysis does not take into account phenotype (coat color, size, muzzle length, etc.) and can typically identify recent admixture to the great-grandparent level or to a breed contribution of 5%.
Separately, while we encourage owners and breeders to use DNA testing to learn more about their dog’s ancestry, health, traits, and relatives, owners looking to register their dogs with various organizations will need to submit their pedigrees to the appropriate registry body for that certification. These registries typically do not include the requirement that the dog be certified as "single breed" from a DNA testing company such as Embark. We encourage breeders to contact their preferred registries and breed club organizations to learn more about their requirements and expectations for dogs of your breed.
Our Embark for Breeders products are designed to confirm breed ancestry, however, full breed percentages for mixes of two breeds or greater do need to be unlocked internally. If you are a breeder who is purposefully breeding dogs that are mixes of two breeds or greater, please let us know and we are happy to provide you with that information.
However, if you do have a mixed breed pet, or have otherwise tested dogs that you do not plan to breed, it is our policy that you will need to purchase this information. If you require assistance in this purchase please contact us.
