Genetic variants for cancer risk still require more scientific research.
If there is not a known, published, and scientifically validated genetic variant associated with a disease, Embark cannot test for it.
Certainly, some studies do support the association of certain genetic variants with cancer risk. However, these variants have been largely discovered by Genome Wide Association Scans (GWAS). Embark continues to follow the most recent findings in canine genomics—and our researchers are making some of them, too! If and when genetic variants are demonstrated to be causal or are demonstrated to be strongly associated with disease in many different populations of dogs, Embark is happy to consider them as a returnable result.
