We test for 200,000+ genetic markers in our industry-leading panel.
Embark uses the most advanced genotyping platform with over 200,000 genetic markers so that your dog has the most accurate and complete profile that science can offer. Competitors don't come close.
Besides breed mix, health, and traits—we can even determine your dog's sex, if you don't already know—the genetic and health profiles of Embark dogs can be used to advance scientific discovery in canine health.
For breeders, we offer a complete picture of genetic diversity as well as relevant health tests to give you the tools you need.
We offer the largest selection of tests for inherited diseases and physical traits. Our tests are economical and efficient, while using the highest medical standards in the industry.
While your dog's sample is in the lab, you can track your order online and receive updates and alerts as the sample is processed.
Our platform is built and run by the world’s top dog geneticists, meaning that you and your dog get the absolute best information while contributing to research in life-saving preventative care for all dogs everywhere. We have published a detailed comparison that explains all the differences between the Embark test and the rest.
Does the Embark test employ similar techniques as human ancestry DNA tests?
Embark has some technological similarities to the DNA analysis that people use to determine their ancestry, but there are major differences in what each analysis is seeking to discover. Embark tests are designed to detect the presence of purebred dogs in the most recent ancestry of a dog, going back about three generations to the great-grandparent level. In contrast, most human ancestry tests are designed to detect the proportion of the tested individual that comes from historical, racial, or defined population groups many generations ago.
