Our mission is to combat disease in all pets through the power of genomics.
For nearly a decade, the team of Embark Veterinary has researched and developed state-of-the-art genetic tests for purebred, designer, and mixed-breed dogs to ultimately revolutionize personalized pet care. By discovering a dog's ancestry, pet owners and veterinarians can work together to tailor wellness programs that fit the one-of-a-kind needs of your unique dog.
How was the test developed?
Research into the Dog Genome has been ongoing for several years. It began with a hope that a better understanding of the dog genome would help the fight against human cancer, as it had been shown that there were many similarities between canine and human cancers. Completion of the Dog Genome Project in 2005 has enabled scientists to discover segments that produce variants between breeds of dogs, such as the shape of the tail, size, or color. It is from that research that we began our own investigations, and it is why we founded Embark Veterinary in 2016.
Why should you buy an Embark DNA test?
Bringing a new dog into the family is a financial and emotional investment. Whether you are a professional dog breeder or simply a careful buyer, an Embark test can help you understand the potential genetic threats to your dog’s health. If you decide to breed, this information will help you select mates to produce the healthiest puppies, thereby increasing the value of your breeding program.
Your dog has inherited traits from his or her ancestors just like you did from your family. But, just like you don’t look exactly like your grandparents, the same is true for your loveable pup. As it can be difficult to identify ancestral breeds by visual identification, using your dog’s DNA to determine the ancestral breeds is much more accurate. Knowing your dog’s ancestry can help you create a tailored wellness program specifically for your canine companion.
