We often hear from people who suspected Belgian Malinois in their dog, but instead, see German Shepherd ancestry. These dogs have simply inherited some of the traits we typically associate with the Belgian Malinois, notably a fawn sable base coat and black masking. While we typically associate German Shepherds with a black and tan base coat, they do carry the genetic instructions necessary to do a pretty convincing impression of a Malinois!
